One day sitting at another music festival, and listening to all the potential the country has to offer, a thought dawned on me. First, I have to admit that I was a groupie for many artists and followed their shows all through the differnet music festivals. So what if I can make a venue where the artists only perform for their most devoted fans, almost like a VIP area? Make it very small and intimate, and have the artist play acoustic. And what will go better with a small intimate, acoustic show, than a four course meal?

And so Saartjie se Garage was born.

A short history about Saartjie se Garage:

The Garage was used as the first police station in Melville in 1896. It was a corrugated iron building finished with wood no the inside. During the late 1930’s, when Melville was quite the neighbourhood to be seen, it became a backroom. We guess that the resident didn’t want the wood panels to be seen, and covered it up with newspapers from 1936, which can still be seen and read. During 1980’s the small building was changed to a dubble garage.

It is quite amazing to see the big names in the industry, like Chris Chameleon and Valiant Swart coming to play at Saartjie se Garage, and, as with most artists, sing with sound the first time (a little to my dismay). But after discovering the magic of the venue and giving the artist such an intimate exposed show, they always return year after year WITHOUT sound. Even Laurie Levine and Josie Field decided to jump in and play without sound.

We hope you will experience the magic and the intimacy that Saartjie se Garage is known for.

Tickets are R290pp which includes the show and a four course meal. Doors open at 19:00 as there are only 48 seats avaialable.
